Leighs Construction has been engaged by Taranaki District Hospital Board (DHB) to undertake the construction of the New East Wing Building (NEWB), a landmark project for New Zealand’s health sector. VAE Group are proud to have been awarded the Mechanical Services contract including Medical Gases, Lead BIM coordination, as well as the Seismic restraint manufacture and installation covering all the building services housed within NEWB. NEWB is a six-storey, 20,000sqm, building housing many of Taranaki Base Hospital’s acute clinical services including Emergency Department, ICU, Maternity, Primary Birthing, Neonatal, Radiology, Laboratory, and a rooftop helipad. VAE will deliver the mechanical services to achieve a targeted 5-Star Green Star certification for the project. This will make NEWB the first, public or private, healthcare facility to achieve this certification in New Zealand. Check out the project timelapse
