The Project

VAE undertook the Mechanical Services and Building Management System (BMS) for The Hutchinson Builders Centre of Excellence, formerly known as the North Queensland Cowboys Community, Training and High-Performance Centre.

The $40M project was completed by the Hutchies Townsville team earlier this year and officially opened on 7 May 2021. Hutchinson Builders Chairman Scott Hutchinson said “it’s exciting to open the Centre on time and on budget as they establish a 10-year partnership with the club”.

Hutchinson added “we’re proud to lend our name to this prestigious new location and to show our long-term support for this powerhouse NRL club and their community vision”.

The three storey facility, located next door to Queensland Country Bank Stadium, includes multi-sport high-performance training facilities, office space for Cowboys staff and allied health professionals, James Cook University (JCU) Sport and Exercise Science unit, plus a full length training field.

Building Management System

The VAE technology team took great pride in creating a unique Cowboys’ branded experience for the facilities Building Management System (BMS) encompassing both hardware and software, so every aspect of the system represents the Cowboys’ identity. The system will control all environmental conditions including training and recovery areas for players, whilst minimising the environmental impact of the building. The Hutchinson Builders Centre of Excellence is truly in a league of its own.

VAE's Scope

VAE Group’s local Townsville team delivered this iconic project, including:

• Two Air Cooled Chillers
• 38 Chilled Water Fan Coil Units in various locations
• Chilled Water Air Handling Unit (AHU) serving the Indoor Pool
• Heating Hot Water AHU serving the Indoor Pool
• DX Split Systems serving the Server room
• Supply and installation of Exhaust systems, including Kitchen, Indoor Pool, Altitude Training Room and Sleep Room
• Associated pipework, ductwork, grilles, diffusers, dampers, and fittings
• Seismic restraints for mechanical equipment
• Mechanical Services Switchboard (MSSB), and associated wiring
• Building Management System (BMS)
