The Project

VAE Group have been engaged by Watpac to undertake the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Solutions on the Cairns Innovation Centre at James Cook University Campus.

The three-storey multi-functional building will provide university staff, students, and external partners with access to a variety of spaces designed to promote innovation scientific and pedagogical activities with areas for meetings, administration, and amenities. An additional single-storey ancillary/support building of approx. 3,546m2 will also be constructed on site.

CIC building has a unique façade which is wrapped in a mesh fabric screen so that coloured images can be projected onto the building. With internal spaces structured around a central atrium featuring a floor to ceiling green wall and floating staircase, the CIC building sets a new benchmark for contemporary and sustainable design.

VAE’s contract includes the supply and installation of the mechanical services including: Air Handling Units (AHU), Preconditioner Units (PCU), Chilled Water Fan Coil Units (FCU), associated pipe and ductwork, Mechanical Services Switchboard (MSSB) and the Building Management System (BMS).
